Tulsi Gabbard, former U.S. representative from Hawaii, spoke about her resignation from the Democratic Party with Fox News personality Tucker Carlson Tuesday night, arguing that President Joe Biden was “pushing” the United States “to the brink of a nuclear holocaust.”
Gabbard, who served in Congress from 2013 to 2021, announced Tuesday morning that she was leaving the Democratic Party, characterizing it as “an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness” in a video posted to her Twitter account.
Former Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard announced that she was resigning from the Democratic Party on Tuesday, claiming that its leadership is “an elitist cabal of warmongers.” Gabbard spoke about her decision with Fox News host Tucker Carlson Tuesday night.
In the interview aired on Tucker Carlson Tonight, Gabbard double-downed on comments made in her Twitter announcement, arguing that decisions made by Biden and leaders in Congress “are actively pushing us to the brink of a nuclear holocaust.”
“Of which they may have their bunkers where they’ll be safe,” Gabbard continued. “But we the American people will have no shelter, no place to go, no place to hide and face the consequences that could destroy all of humanity and the world as we know it.”
Gabbard also argued that Democratic leaders “despise the Constitution” and “actively find ways to undermine our God-given rights enshrined in the Constitution, like freedom of speech.”
“It speaks to the whole environment of fear that those in power, these elitists in power, have fomented to where people are afraid to speak the truth,” Gabbard continued.
“[People are] afraid to exercise their right to free speech because, hey, you might lose your job, you might be canceled, you might get trashed, and God forbid in Washington, you might not be invited to the cool kids’ party.”
Carlson asked Gabbard if any of her former Democratic colleagues reached out to her Tuesday following her announcement.
Gabbard replied that one “sent me a text message with three thumbs up.”
Gabbard, who ran for the Democratic presidential nominee in 2020, has been at the center of controversial comments in recent months, including a tweet she posted in September that encouraged FBI agents to “stand against” their superiors who are “abusing their power to target political opponents.”
The former congresswoman has also been deemed a “Russian propagandist” by the Ukrainian government after claiming in March that there are 25 “dangerous biolabs” in Ukraine and that the U.S. has provoked Russian President Vladimir Putin for years leading up to the Russian-Ukraine war.
On Tuesday, former national security adviser John Bolton acknowledged the increased concern of a possible nuclear strike, since Russia has faced significant losses in its invasion of Ukraine, but suggested the United States could “take out” Putin if he were to use nuclear weapons.
